The CARE Council’s first Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration Day event is scheduled for January 20th and will be held at the First Baptist Church, in Nicholasville. The speaker will be Colmon Elridge, who has served as the Government Relations Director for the Kentucky Education Association, since April, 2018 and had served eight years as the Executive Assistant and Senior Advisor to Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear. He brings his government, political, education, and organizing backgrounds to help lead the fight for students, educators, and communities served by public schools. The title of Mr. Elridge’s message will be “The More Perfect Union.” A unity breakfast will be served prior to the program, and a suggested donation of $5 or more is being asked, but not required. We do not want anyone to choose not to attend due to the lack of a financial contribution. After the program, there will be a march from the church to the Jessamine County Courthouse, in which a very brief program (about 10 minutes) will be held.
